The Africa Armwrestling Championship – Abuja 2025 will be conducted in accordance with the official rules and regulations of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) and the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF). Key regulations include:

Competition Format: Double elimination with best-of-three matches


Weigh-in Requirements: Athletes must meet the weight limits of their registered categories

Refereeing Standards: Certified referees following international armwrestling protocols

Fair Play & Anti-Doping: Strict adherence to WADA anti-doping policies

CHAMPIONSHIPS INFORMATION & PROCEDURES

1.1 TEAM REGISTRATION will be made before the championship ONLY ONLINE at

TEAMS NOT REGISTERED ONLINE WILL PAY A PROCESSING FEE OF 250 $ AT LOCATION.

The online registration will open on May 1st, 2025 and will be closed on 10th of July .

Team Registration at the Championship will take place in the Venue, Thursday 23th of July 2025 between 09:00-18:00 according with the

schedule.

A schedule with the countries order will be published one week before.

Procedure:

Team representing person will:

❖ Only one person will register their team, a translator it is also accepted.

❖ The Representative will bring the final Team Registration form, stamped and signed.

❖ Final small changes are accepted free of charge.

❖ Host clear of duties confirmation (all services paid).

AFA Representative will:

❖ Accept the Registration Form,

❖ Receive individual and team registration fees.

❖ Update member profile if case

❖ Prepare Official Receipt and Invoice

❖ Issue the Weigh-in tickets needed by athletes for the weigh in.

All teams are obliged to fill online registration form and send their registration forms (PDF file) to the General Secretary of AFA until 10th of

July 2025.

The registration order for the team registration and weigh-ins depends on the first log in request received by the General Secretary by

e-mail at afa.generaralsecretary@gmail.com

Multiple entries registration:

Junior 16 (18) cannot register in Youth 23 classes.

Juniors 18 & Youth 19 (23) years can register in Seniors classes.

Masters, can register only one age group in their class.

Masters, can register in Seniors classes.

Disabled athletes can register in able athlete’s classes if approved by the Classification Panel.

Fees paid due wrong registration of multiple entries will not be refunded.

AFA Fees 2025:

Annual membership: 500 $ member

Senior registration fee: 20 $ one arm and 40 $ both arm per class

Junior fee: 10$ per class per hand

Sub-junior: 10$ per class per hand

Master fee: 20$ per class per hand

Disable Fee10$ per class per hand

AFA athlete license: 5 $ per athlete

1.2 Accreditation   

Each team member will receive an accreditation card / badge, which must be worn at all times and should be clearly visible. Security personnel will

control all areas. The accreditation is not transferable and does not allow the holder to take another person beyond checkpoints.

Photo (passport type) are required for the accreditation of all participants excluding competitors. Photos shall be sent by email to

info@africaarmwrestling.com Photo must be passport type, 4:3 format, .jpg or .png, white background, must not exceed 500kb in size.

Accreditation registration requirements will contain: name, country and title (President, Trainer), and must be sent by email to info@africaarmwrestling.com

latest 5th of July 2025.

Accreditation Centre will be located at Venue VELODROME, MOSHOOD ABIOLA NATIONAL.

The Help Desk opening hours will be daily from 23th of July to 28th of July 07:00 – 22:00.

This is where the Team Leaders shall report as soon as possible after his/her arrival, in order to carry out the administrative procedures.

Accreditation cards will be prepared in advance based on the information provided by the Member Federation through the email. No changes will be

accepted after 10th of July 2025.

The Team Leader will be asked to complete the team registration, accommodation and transfer formalities before he/she can collect the accreditation

cards for the whole team.

All team accreditation cards will allow access to the team seating area, VIP seating area, warm-up and training areas. Furthermore, the accreditation can

be used to access the local transport.

Due to the limited number of seats available in the VIP zone, please note that only maximum 2 two persons per country will be granted access to the VIP

areas (President and General Secretary).

Loss of an Accreditation Card Any lost or damaged accreditation cards should be reported to the Help Desk main Accreditation Centre situated at Team

Accreditation Centre situated at Venue VELODROME, MOSHOOD ABIOLA NATIONAL.

Duplicate cards can be obtained where proof of identity can be established at a charge of 10 $.

Unauthorized use of an accreditation card will result in the card being confiscated by the organizers.

1.3 WEIGH-IN Procedures

WEIGH-IN SCHEDULE

The weigh-in order depends on the first log in request received by the General Secretary if the team sent by e-mail the Registration form

before 10th of July 2025

WEIGH-IN PROCEDURE FOR TEAM CAPTAINS

❖ Team Captain must be present with the Team during weigh-in procedure in order to answer any questions.

❖ Each team captain will prepare the team for the weigh-in in the following order:

Ladies 50, 55, 60 kg and continue… Men 55, 60, 65 kg and continue…

Please note:

❖ If a competitor does not make weight, they have time until 15:00 to come back to the scale.

❖ A test scale will be available for near weigh-in rooms.

❖ A competitor has the right to go at the official weigh-in scales only two times. A competitor may only do the second weigh-in

between other countries weigh-in.

❖ A competitor may weigh-in to their normal weight or register one weight class higher.

❖ The Team Captain will wait until all the team athletes will be registered and pictures taken. Once the full Team is completed,

Once the competitor has weighed-in, they will have a picture taken for their Official Competitor badge. Team captain will pick-up

the official competitors badges at the end of the weigh-in day from the Help Desk located in the Venue VELODROME, MOSHOOD

ABIOLA NATIONAL.

❖ The Team Captain must check all the data included in the badge and notify immediately if any errors are found. Please check

categories codes, arms, country flag, athlete name. 

WEIGH-IN PROCEDURE FOR ATHLETES

  1. Each athlete must provide to the WAF weigh-in officers:
  2. Photocopy and original of the identity document (Passport, Photo ID)
  3. Weigh-in ticket received by the Team Captain at the Team Registration.
  4. If necessary, athlete can undress before step onto the official scale.
  5. The athlete weigh-in will be noted into the country weigh-in official AFA form.
  6. If the athlete did not manage to make the weight for the needed category, he has the right to do a second weigh-in until 1500.
  7. If an athlete managed to do the weight for the desired category, after having his weight registered in the AFA forms, he must go to

the free weigh-in officer to take a photo.

  1. After finishing the procedure, the competitor must leave the Weigh-in room.
  2. Athlete takes his/her official competitor badge from his/her Team Captain.

Any Team Officials (Referee, Presidents and Coach) with a Country must follow the accreditation procedure in order to receive event

badge.

1.4 CLASSIFCATION SEMINAR

The classification training seminar will be held on Thursday 24th of July 2025 starting 16:00 in Venue VELODROME, MOSHOOD ABIOLA NATIONAL.

Training, testing and certification.

The course is open to any interested person with a medical or physiotherapy/ sports Science backgrounds who wish to become

classifier.

In order to take part, participants must register to the course latest 10th of July 2025 at info@africaarmwrestling.com and ask for

confirmation.

Trainee classifiers who wish to complete their International Classifiers training will be required to attend other AFA competitions.

Coaches and other trainers who are interested in classification may attend for information and education purposes.

Participation must be confirmed by email latest 10th of July 2025 at info@africaarmwrestling.com

1.5 Opening& Awarding Ceremonies

The Opening Ceremony will feature:

❖ Opening speeches / protocol

❖ Artistic show linked to local culture

❖ A parade of all national teams present

❖ Presentation of the event referees

CLOSING PARTY

The Host will plan and organize 10 years Anniversary of Armwrestling in Nigeria should be included in the write up. History of Armwrestling

in Nigeria, Patrons and Sports distinguished personality Award for both Nigeria and Africa. Cultural Night and dance.

All participants can attend. Reservation is needed. Location will be announced before the championship starts.

AWARDING CEREMONIES

The Awarding Ceremonies will be scheduled after each day finals.

Medalists must wear official team dress on the podium. No other team member is accepted on the stage during the awarding

ceremonies. They must have prepared the Passport or the National ID for the doping testing.

Medalists will receive medal and certificate from VIP’s and officials.

Athletes shall be placed on the podium according to the following order (2, 1, 3).

Each athlete having won a medal must be present at the ceremony and receive the medal personally. It could be considered

inappropriate for athletes on the podium to have items other than the official flag and fixed on their uniform. Religious, political, personal,

or commercial connotation or wearing a cap or any similar covers on the head is not permitted.

1.6 Anti-Doping Procedures

DOPING CONTROL

Anti-doping Control will take place after each category podium ceremony. After the ceremony, all medalists must go to the anti

doping committee desk near the stage and pick card for random testing. They must have prepared the Passport or the National ID.

The World Anti-Doping Rules, and where necessary the WADA Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency, shall apply throughout the

championships.

Random and/or targeted Anti-doping tests will be conducted In Competition. WAF and/or WADA may carry out random and/or

targeted out-of-competition testing prior, during or after the championships

TUE (THERAPEUTIC USE EXEMPTION)

Athletes who take any substance or medicine listed in the “Prohibited List “of the World Anti- Doping

Agency (WADA) for therapeutic purposes are requested to visit WAF website
